🔒 Privacy Policy for ALS STATS Google Sheets™ Add-on
Last updated: June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what data the ALS STATS add-on for Google Sheets™ can access, how that data is used, and what is not done with your information. The text below is written for regular users and does not require any technical background.
1. What information can the add-on access?
The add-on can access only four types of information, and only when you install it and actively use its features:
- Data in your spreadsheet (numbers and text in the cells you work with)
- Access to show menus and sidebars inside Google Sheets™
- Basic account information (your Google email address)
- Basic profile information (such as your display name), which may be used for optional personalization of the add-on interface
Below we describe each type in a simple way.
2. Google API Scopes Used
The ALS STATS Google Sheets™ add-on uses the minimum scopes required to provide its core functionality. These scopes are:
- https://www.googleapis.com/auth/spreadsheets.currentonly — allows the add-on to read and write data only in the spreadsheet where it is currently opened. Access is limited to the active file and does not include any other documents in your Google Drive. With the
@OnlyCurrentDocannotation used inside the code, access is sandboxed strictly to the currently opened sheet. - https://www.googleapis.com/auth/script.container.ui — allows the add-on to display menus, dialogs, and sidebars within Google Sheets™. This scope does not provide access to spreadsheet content beyond UI integration.
- https://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.email — required by Google for basic account identification during authorization. The add-on does not use, store, or process your email address.
- https://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.profile — required by Google for displaying the user identity in the authorization prompt. The add-on does not use, store, or process profile data.
The add-on does not request access to any other spreadsheets, Drive files, folders, external services, AI/ML APIs, or third-party systems.
3. Spreadsheet data (statistics on your data)
When you run a statistical function with ALS STATS, the add-on reads only the ranges and cells that you select or that are required for the specific analysis (for example, a column of numbers for a t-test). This includes:
- Values in the cells (numbers or text) used as input for statistical calculations, processed only during analysis and not stored afterwards
- Technical information stored together with the spreadsheet, such as configuration settings for this file that the add-on may save using Google’s Document Properties so that you do not have to configure them again.
All calculations are performed directly inside your Google Sheets™ using Apps Script. The add-on does not read any other sheet or cell ranges unless they are explicitly used as part of the selected calculation.
4. User interface access (menus and sidebars)
The add-on uses a special permission that allows it to show menus and sidebars inside Google Sheets™. This is necessary so that you can:
- Open the ALS STATS menu under “Extensions”
- See a list of functions and help panels
- Work with settings and results in a convenient panel on the side
This permission does not give the add-on access to extra data about your account. It only allows the add-on to display its own interface elements inside the Google Sheets™ window.
5. Email address (used only for identification)
Access to your Google account email address may be shown during authorization as part of the standard Google Apps Script authentication framework. In the current version of the ALS STATS add-on, this information is not used, displayed, stored, processed, or transmitted by any feature of the add-on.
- The add-on does not use your email for licensing, personalization, analytics, or feature control.
- Your email address remains entirely within Google’s secure execution environment.
- No email information is shared with third parties or external services.
6. Profile information (limited use)
Basic profile information (such as your display name) may appear in the authorization prompt as part of the default Google Apps Script authentication model. The ALS STATS add-on does not use, display, store, or process this information in any of its features.
- The add-on does not use profile information for personalization, licensing, analytics, or marketing.
- No profile information is transmitted to external servers or shared with any third parties.
- No profile or identity data is stored outside your Google Sheets™ document.
7. How is your data used?
The main purpose of the add-on is to help you perform statistical analysis directly in Google Sheets™. This means that your data is used only to:
- Calculate statistical measures and test values
- Generate summaries and reports based on the data you select
- Write the results of the analysis back into your spreadsheet in the form of values, tables, or reports
All processing happens inside your Google Sheets™ environment. The add-on does not send your spreadsheet data to any external servers for processing.
7.1 Data Security and Protection of Sensitive Information
ALS STATS treats all spreadsheet data as sensitive. To protect this data, the add-on applies the following security measures:
- Secure communication: All interactions with Google services are handled by the Google Apps Script environment, which uses Google’s standard encrypted HTTPS connections according to Google’s security practices.
- No external transmission: Spreadsheet data is never sent to external servers. All processing and calculations happen inside your Google Sheets™ document using Apps Script.
- No external storage: The add-on does not store spreadsheet content, intermediate results, or user profile data on any external servers, databases, or cloud services.
- No logging: The add-on does not log spreadsheet content or any other user data.
- Developer-only access: Access to the source code and configuration of the add-on is restricted to the developer and protected by Google Account security mechanisms.
- Local-only settings storage: The add-on stores optional configuration settings using Google’s Document Properties, which belong to the specific spreadsheet. These settings never leave Google’s environment and can be modified only through the add-on’s interface.
These measures ensure that your spreadsheet content remains private and is not transmitted outside Google Workspace by the add-on.
8. Data Protection Mechanisms
The ALS STATS add-on treats all spreadsheet data as sensitive. To protect this data, the following mechanisms are applied:
- Restricted access scope: The add-on uses
spreadsheets.currentonly, ensuring it can only access the currently opened spreadsheet and nothing else in your Google Drive. - @OnlyCurrentDoc enforcement: Functions interacting with spreadsheet data are marked with
@OnlyCurrentDoc, which enforces access limits at the script-engine level. - In-memory processing: All statistical computations occur in memory inside the Google Apps Script environment. No spreadsheet data is transmitted outside Google’s infrastructure.
- No external storage: The add-on does not store spreadsheet content, configuration, user identity, or any analysis results on external servers.
- Data transmission security: All communication with Google servers occurs over encrypted HTTPS connections within Google’s managed environment.
- No use of data for AI/ML: The add-on does not use user data for machine learning, AI model training, analytics pipelines, or any automated processing outside the user's spreadsheet.
- User-controlled retention: Any optional configuration settings are stored solely in the spreadsheet’s Document Properties, which belong fully to the user and are deleted automatically if the spreadsheet is deleted.
9. Is any data stored?
The add-on does not store your spreadsheet data on external servers. All calculations are performed in memory while the add-on is running. In some cases, the add-on may save technical settings using Google’s Document Properties associated with your spreadsheet (for example, default options for that file), so that you do not need to configure the same options again. These settings are stored together with your Google Sheets™ document and remain under your control.
10. Do you share my data?
No. The add-on does not share your data with any third parties. Your spreadsheet content, email address, and profile information are not sent to other services, advertisers, or analytics platforms.
11. Your control over data
You can stop using the add-on at any time by simply removing it from Google Sheets™. You can also revoke its access in your Google Account security settings. Any technical settings stored for a particular spreadsheet can be changed at any time through the add-on’s settings interface (for example, adjusting default values or report formatting options). These settings are stored only within the spreadsheet’s Document Properties and are removed automatically if the spreadsheet itself is deleted.
12 Compliance with Google Policies
The ALS STATS add-on complies with all applicable Google policies, including:
- Google API Services User Data Policy
- Google Workspace Marketplace Review Guidelines
- OAuth 2.0 Verification Requirements
The add-on does not collect, transmit, store, or share Google user data outside the Google Workspace environment. No data is used for advertising, marketing, profiling, or AI/ML training.
If the add-on is updated in the future in a way that requires additional permissions, a new verification process will be completed before such changes are made available to users.
