Common questions

“We are sorry, but you do not have access to this Addon. Please contact your Organization Administrator”

This message comes from Google Workspace: a work or school account can use only the add-ons that its administrator allows. Ask the administrator of your domain to allow ALS Stats, or install it with a personal Google account.

“ALS Stats: permission needed”

One of the permissions was unchecked during installation. Click Grant access in that window, allow every permission ALS Stats asks for, and choose the menu item again.

STATS formulas do not calculate in a new spreadsheet

Open Extensions › ALS Stats › Activate in this file. The item is shown until the add-on has full access to the file; after that, the formulas calculate.

A formula still shows the old result after I changed the settings

Google Sheets keeps the result of a custom formula as long as its arguments stay the same. Run Extensions › ALS Stats › Recalculate STATS formulas to compute them again with the new settings.

#REF! under STATS_SPLIT_COLS

STATS_SPLIT_COLS returns a block as tall as the whole sample: every value stays on the row of its respondent. The cells below the formula must be empty for the full height of the data — move or clear whatever is in the way.

The p-value differs from the previous version

Some calculations changed in version 2.0. The change log lists what is computed differently and why.

Why do I see a single-cell message instead of a report?

When the input cannot be analyzed, the formula returns one cell with the reason instead of the report — for example, Column nope does not exist when a column name is not in the range. Fix what the message names, and the report appears. Each function page lists its messages under “Errors”.

How do I choose which columns to analyze?

Use the colFilter parameter: names ("age, score"), exclusions with a minus ("-id"), a regular expression between slashes ("/^q/") or positions ("#2-#4"). An empty filter uses every column of the range.
